Imagine What Your Child Can Achieve with Strong Math Skills

The Kumon Math Program
Preschool — High School

Just 30 minutes a day can build a lifetime of advantages

Daily Kumon math practice takes about 30 minutes to complete. Students attend class twice a week at a Kumon Centre and complete assignments at home the other five days. Every child works at their own pace and masters each new math concept before moving forward. You will watch your child’s math skills advance and see their confidence grow.

What topics are covered in the Kumon Math Program?

Many Kumon parents find their children master concepts that put them grade levels ahead of their peers. Your Kumon Instructor will conduct a Placement Test to assess where your child is in their learning.

  • Counting and number sequencing

AGES 3-5

Give your preschooler a head start.

Through the Kumon Math Program, preschoolers start out by counting objects and learning the number sequence before learning to write numbers, all at an individualized and comfortable pace. These skills provide a strong foundation for learning basic addition and subtraction. You’ll watch your child develop mental calculation skills, improve concentration ability and boost critical thinking skills.

AGES 6-12

Math can take your child to great places.

Through elementary school, the Kumon Math Program helps students advance their math skills by deepening ability and understanding with daily practice. Ultimately, these skills become a foundation of knowledge to draw on throughout school. Confidence and strong fundamental skills in math strengthen the critical thinking needed for scientific learning as well.

AGES 13+

Competing in today’s world takes advanced math skills.

As your child enters middle and high school, the Kumon Math Program will solidify and advance logical thinking, providing the tools that are necessary to excel in school, and later for rigorous college courses. Through the study of algebraic equations to trigonometry, calculus and statistics, your child can elevate their higher level math skills.

Frequently Asked Questions

Kumon Math starts with foundational skills like counting and addition, then builds through subtraction, multiplication, fractions, algebra, and even calculus. Because students move at their own pace, they don’t just get exposed to topics — they understand each concept before moving forward.
Yes. Kumon, by design, can help students who may be struggling by starting at a level where they can feel successful right away. From there, skills are rebuilt step by step, which helps close gaps and increase confidence without overwhelming them.
Yes. Many students struggle with fractions and algebra because of gaps in earlier concepts. Kumon addresses this by reinforcing the fundamentals first, then guiding students through fractions, decimals, and algebra with enough practice to build real understanding, not just memorization.
Confidence is a big focus of the program. As students begin to complete work independently and solve problems correctly on their own, many students begin to feel more capable. Over time, that confidence carries into school and other subjects.
Repetition is designed to help students master concepts to the point where they can solve problems quickly and accurately without second-guessing themselves. This is done through a sequence of similar problems that gradually increase in difficulty, building the level of mastery needed to succeed as math becomes more challenging.
